HISTORY: The design was chosen from an international competition organized under the Dayton Peace ☮︎ Agreement after the

Bosnian War, with an emphasis in neutral / non ethnic symbols to promote unity.

Despite its intent, many subnational entities like Republika Srpska still prefer their own

symbols, reflecting the ongoing tensions over centralized emblems.

VEXILLOLOGY:*

• The 3 sides of the YELLOW ◀ TRIANGLE symbolize the 3 main ethnic groups, Bosniaks, Serbs & Croats, united, with the geometric form approximating the shape of the national territory.
