CIRCA - 1848 🇭🇺 - horizontal tricolor of red (top), white (middle) & green (bottom) equal stripes
HISTORY: Horizontal bands of red & white emerged in the heraldic banners of the Magyar (9c -1301) (The red may also be
related to a solid maroon 9c Banner of Greater Moravia) with green introduced in 13-14c ⛨ Hungarian coat-of-arms
(as the mound for St. Stephen's Patriarchal cross ☨ [Cross of Lorraine or double-cross] after the country was Christianized.)

The tricolor arose from the historical colors centuries later, during the Spring of Nations
revolution of 1848 against the Hapsburgs.
In 1949 a Soviet ⛨ coat of arms was added but later removed after the 1956 Revolution,
where protester literally tore it out, creating "flags with a hole" signifying rejection of
communist totalitarian rule.
