- word 'cousins' that can trace their etymology back to a common root word, (often Latin or

even earlier PIE 🔍 roots) 

Sometimes the cognates have similar modern meanings and the relationship makes sense.

Other times they are surprisingly different and seem unrelated, however looking at the

history of how each evolved can often shed nuanced light into the more subtle meanings

of the present day word.
