CIRCA - 1848 🇸🇮 - horizontal tricolor of white (top), blue (middle) & red (bottom) equal stripes with a mountain & stars coat of arms in the upper hoist canton
HISTORY: The flag traces to that of the Duchy of Carniola, (modern west🔍 Slovenia) whose tricolor drew from it's medieval
coat of arms ⛨ (blue🔍 eagle 🦅 on a white ⛊ shield with red accents.)

1st flown during the 1848 uprising against the Habsburgs, it predated (but happily aligned with)
widespread standardization of pan-Slavic🔍 red-white-blue colors that emerged during the 19c
Spring of Nations, (inspired by the Russian tricolor🔍; the preeminent Slavic power.)
Over the next few centuries the Carniolian tricolor evolved multiple variations; sometimes altering stripe order, sometimes
plain, sometimes with emblems (like a single red ★ star under communism) until 1991, after the 10-day war and upon the
declaration of independence fromYugoslavia, when a version with Slovene ⛨ Coat of Arms in the canton was adopted (to
distinguish it from the nearly identical Slovakian flag🔍.)
